Garcia & Gonzales,
Denver Chapter 7 Bankruptcy Lawyer

Serving the Community Since 1977

When debt is overwhelming, you need a way out. Federal bankruptcy laws were established to give people debt relief and a fresh start in their finances. There is life after bankruptcy.

Chapter 7 bankruptcies can wipe away many types of debt, including:

  • Credit card debt
  • Medical bills
  • Taxes over three years old, including interest and penalties

Changes in Bankruptcy Laws

In 2005, there was a major reform of the bankruptcy laws. Credit card companies and other powerful organizations wanted to make it harder for ordinary people to get a fresh start with a bankruptcy. For the most part, though, things have not changed.

Many people think you cannot file for bankruptcy at all any more. This is not true. Bankruptcy protection still exists. The only real difference is that you now must go through a "means test" to determine whether you can go through a Chapter 7 or a Chapter 13 bankruptcy. Essentially, if your income falls below a certain amount, you may be able to file a Chapter 7 bankruptcy. If not, you can still file for bankruptcy under Chapter 13.

The means test has another, more complicated stage; the attorneys of Garcia & Gonzales, led by a husband-and-wife team of Denver Chapter 7 bankruptcy lawyers, Carla Garcia and Richard Gonzales, can help you through the process. We are a family law firm helping families through difficult times. Hablamos español.
